Policy Update
Connecticut Passes Just Transition Act
In June, the Connecticut governor signed into law SB 999, sponsored by the Joint Committee on Labor and Public Employees. The legislation sets guidelines and requirements for renewable energy projects to incorporate community benefit agreements, apprenticeship programs, prevailing wage, and project labor agreements.
This year, 21 states considered or are considering clean energy workforce development bills. As we move away from dependence on fossil fuels, there is increasing recognition that climate policies must incorporate a focus on a just and equitable transition. States can foster a just transition by proactively creating an inclusive clean energy workforce and ensuring that the workers and communities that powered our nation for so long do not get abandoned.
