NCEL Condemns Political Violence
September 12, 2025
NCEL continues to strongly condemn political violence, which has no place in our democracy. The strength of any true democracy rests on the peaceful exchange of differing ideas.
We are horrified that attacks like these continue, whether this week on political voices like Charlie Kirk, recently on the spouses of elected officials such as Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, or on elected officials themselves, such as Speaker Melissa Hortman, Senator John Hoffman, and the assassination attempts on President Trump.
At NCEL, we understand and have felt the impact of political violence, as both Minnesota lawmakers attacked earlier this year were active members of our organization, and Speaker Hortman served on our Board of Directors for many years. Then, as now, our thoughts are with the families of all those who have been personally impacted by these terrible events.
